For years, I wore traditional alcohol-based perfumes without much thought. Like many, I believed that was how fragrance worked.
Then, during a period of personal change, those perfumes no longer felt right on my skin. They felt stronger than I wanted, sometimes drying, and occasionally overwhelming.
At the same time, I noticed something else. Customers often asked if they could wear our home fragrances on their skin. They loved the scents in their candles and diffusers and said, “I wish this came as a perfume.”
That question stayed with me. If I were craving something gentler and our customers wanted to wear our scents, maybe there was a way to create fragrance differently.
That’s how our alcohol-free perfume oils began.
Why I Chose to Go Alcohol-Free
Most traditional perfumes rely heavily on alcohol. Alcohol helps the scent spread quickly and evaporate into the air. But this fast evaporation can dry the skin and cause irritation, especially for those with sensitive skin.
I didn’t want to just turn a candle scent into a spray perfume. It had to feel aligned with our values: thoughtful ingredients, wellbeing, and fragrance that works with the skin not against it.
So, instead of alcohol, I started developing a formula using nourishing plant-based oils.
